Cliff Stunden Collection
Toronto Milks
Cliff Stunden Collection
Cliff Stunden and his wife Donna were gracious enough to let me into their home to photograph Cliff's collection of embossed dairy bottles most of which are from Toronto. The result is here for everyone to view for themselves. Cliff has hundreds of milk bottles including some rare and extremely scarce hand finished examples. Those of you with a trained eye will spot milks not listed, or in different variations then listed in the dairy books.

Cliff & Donna started collecting glass bottles around 10 years ago, when digging on their own property to unplug a drain. A large complex was soon developed next door along with many others in the neighbourhood which continued to fuel their interest and supply of bottles. Over time they had to narrow down their collection, selling off a prized fruit jar collection, along with poisons, sodas, beers and medicines. Today Donna collects glass ginger beers and Cliff may be one of only five people who can call themselves a Toronto milk bottle collector. Cliff has a  nostalgic connection to milks with childhood memories of horse-drawn wagons in Toronto. The Stunden's have well over 800 bottles on display in their home, and participate at the Toronto and Cambridge bottle shows.

If interested in buying and selling bottles with the Stunden's, they can be reached at (416) 466-9601 or through the e-mail below.
Tim Braithwaite Collection
Primitives & Ginger Beers

Tim Braithwaite Collection
When I first spoke to Tim Braithwaite he had mentioned that he was digging in dumps 25 - 30 years ago. So I was expecting to meet someone who was much older than myself. I was surprised to find out that Tim was about the same age. His father was a treasure hunter and used to take Tim along on his excursions when he was young. Metal detecting and coin collecting was part of that early exposure to the hobby. From the early days of catching rides into Toronto to dig his favourite spots, to renting property and digging it with a back hoe, Tim has accumulated extensive knowledge and digging experience.

Tim’s bottle collecting has evolved over time and in the last six years he has specialized in collecting ginger beers and with an additional new focus on primitives in the last year. The 74 images presented here a test to fact that Tim has acquired many great Canadian stone bottles.  Tim is always in the market for new acquisitions and can be contacted through the e-mail below.

I would like to thank Tim for inviting us into his home to photograph his collection and for sharing it here with everyone.
Paul Huntley Collection
Ontario Milks

Paul Huntley Collection
Looking at Paul Huntley's milk bottle collection you wouldn't believe he only started collecting in 1994 with the purchase of an Aurora Dairy bottle at an auction. In the past decade he has put together an impressive collection of about 1,100 bottles both embossed and ACL many which are considered scarce. Paul's main focus is on Toronto milks with additions from other Ontario towns.

Originally from the Orangeville / Alton area Paul now resides in Toronto. In the past I would run into Paul and his brother at auctions where more often than not we were looking at or bidding on the same items. Not limiting himself to bottles Paul has countless milk caps, several 1950's wood crates and Dairy calendars.

I know we are all grateful for collectors like Paul who are willing to put their collections out there for everyone to see and I would like to thank him for his contribution to this site. If you have any inquiries you can contact Paul through the e-mail below.

Laurence Graff Collection
Southern Ontario Milks

Laurence Graff Collection
Laurence Graff emailed me a while back asking if I would be interested in showcasing his collection of dairy bottles. Well of course I said yes and after a few email glitches at my end I finally received all of the pictures your about to view. Laurence and his son Joe often went on the hunt for bottles from their hometown of St. Mary's, Ontario and other nearby towns of Stratford, Mitchell and Tavistock.

I had the pleasure of meeting Laurence at the 2005 Cambridge Bottle Show. It was sheer coincidence that we were standing in line together, started to talk and both of us discovered who the other was. Laurence expressed that he thought everyone would enjoy seeing some of his bottles. You can contact him if you have any comments through the email below. I would like to thank Laurence for sharing his collection with all of us.

Tim Maitland Collection
Ontario Milks & ACL Soda Bottles

Tim Maitland Collection
I had spoke to Tim on a couple of occasions to discuss my upcoming plan to start a new section on the site that would cover Ontario dairies. I wanted to make sure that there was enough interest out there among dairy collectors and to find out if they were willing to participate in donating their time and collections for the project. Well Tim was very enthusiastic about the project and sharing his collection. So in the summer of 2007 we made plans for me to drop by and photograph his collection. Not only does Tim have a wonderful collection of milk bottles, caps and other go-withs, he has a wide range of ACL Sodas and caps covering Ontario and beyond. So what you will find here is the first real gallery of Canadian ACL sodas on the internet. I would like to thank Tim for his assistance with Ontario Dairies and for sharing his collection with all of us.
Jim Maitland Collection
Ontario Milks, Sodas & Ginger Beers

Jim Maitland Collection
In the summer of 2007 I was invited to Tim Maitland's to photograph his collection for the upcoming Ontario Dairies. Since Tim's father Jim lived nearby I also had the pleasure of seeing and photographing his impressive collection that covers every type of bottle known, plus crocks, signs, go-withs etc. I could have spent days taking pictures but only had a short time due to my impending 3 hour plus trip home. What you will see here is a selection of Jim's collection including some rare pieces seldom seen anywhere. I would like to thank Jim for sharing his collection with everyone. Enjoy!
Glen Phillips Collection
Canadian Druggist Bottles

Glen Phillips Collection
Over the years I have met Glen Phillips on several occasions at shows and a club meeting. For those of you who have met Glen you know he is very knowledgeable, very easy to talk to and he has a great sense of humour. If you have never met him I'm sure that if you have ever looked up a dairy, druggist, soda or beer bottle from Ontario, you have probably referred to Glen's well researched books to locate and date your latest acquisitions. During one or more of our conversations I mentioned to him about the showcase and ask if he would be willing to post his collection. Glen contacted me early in the summer of 2008 and told me that he would be moving out of the province at the beginning of August. So with only a small window of opportunity I scheduled a date in July and headed down to Stratford, Ontario. Glen unlike many collectors, including myself who have found ourselves short on space and looking for the next spot to stash our treasures, surprised me to see his collection tidily displayed in one modest sized cabinet. But size can be deceiving as he has some rare and amazing druggists and poisons bottles from across Canada. So after three years here is your chance to view his collection. I would once again like to thank Glen for all his hard work and for letting everyone view his collection.
